Short answer
Termina creates a personalized benchmark for your site, based on your actual energy usage and charges. This benchmark represents what your energy plan would cost if you were on your original plan. We continually compare this benchmark to current retailer offers so you know whether you are on a competitive plan.
What data do we use for the benchmark?
We calculate your benchmark using data from your originalenergy bills. This includes:
- Consumption profile – how much energy you use and when
- c/kWh rates – the price per unit of electricity or gas
- Service charges – fixed daily supply charge
These inputs allow us to model what a competitive plan would cost for your site’s actual usage, rather than relying on generic estimates.
How does the comparison work?
Every time we receive a bill for your site, we review retailer offers across the whole market compare them against your benchmark. This lets us see:
- Whether your current plan is above, below, or in line with market rates
- Which retailers offers would provide genuine savings based on your actual usage
- Review your rates against Termina's custom rates, which we access with our collective buying power
If we find a cheaper plan, we automatically process a switch.
The benchmark always reflects the most accurate, personalized comparison for your site.
Because we don’t take any commission from retailers, we are always free to review against the whole market.
How does Termina make money?
Termina only makes money when we find you savings above your benchmark. We take a 50/50 savings split from the savings we find you, incorporated into the invoice you receive. That means we are always incentivized to find you the best rates available, either on the market or through our custom agreements.

Who sets the rates?
Energy retailers set the rates. Termina monitors the market and and looks for plans that beat your benchmark, helping you secure savings compared to what your original plan would have cost.
What if I receive my own quote?
If you receive a new retailer offer, you can submit it to us at any time. This includes retention offers or offers from brokers. We will then use it to update your benchmark, so you can access those savings.
We always work to find you the best savings, but your benchmark remains 100% flexible.
